Terms of service
The rules for using Twean, in plain words. Last updated 8 October 2026.
The short version
- Your memories are yours. We only use them to run Twean for you.
- Don't use Twean for anything illegal or harmful, especially on paths you share.
- We work hard to keep Twean running and your memories safe, but keep an export of anything you can't afford to lose.
- AI answers can be wrong. Check anything important.
- You can leave at any time: Settings → Delete account.
About these terms
Twean (“we”, “us”) runs the app at twean.com. These terms are an agreement between you and Twean. By creating an account or using Twean, you agree to them. Our privacy notice explains what we do with your data and is part of these terms.
Questions: info@twean.com.
Your account
- You must be 13 or older to use Twean.
- Use an email address that's yours: it's how you reset your password and get anything you email yourself.
- Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account; tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
- Your username is public: it's part of the address of any path you share. Don't pick one that pretends to be someone else.
Your memories are yours
You keep all rights to what you store: text, photos and everything else. You give Twean permission to store, copy and process it only as needed to run Twean for you, for example to:
- show it to you, search it and remind you about it
- show a path you've shared to anyone with its address, and deliver a memory you pass to the people you choose
- send it to the AI provider while AI features are on, as the privacy notice describes
- email it to you when you tap Email me
That permission ends when you delete the memory or your account, except for copies you've already passed to other people, which are theirs to keep or dismiss.
Only store what you have the right to store, and don't share other people's private information without their agreement.
Sharing and passing
- A shared path is public: anyone with its address can read the memories on it, and could copy them. Turning sharing off stops new visitors, but can't undo copies already made.
- A passed memory becomes the other person's copy. Deleting yours doesn't delete theirs.
- You're responsible for what you share and pass.
What's not allowed
Don't use Twean to store, share or pass anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages or helps someone to break the law
- sexually exploits or endangers children in any way
- promotes terrorism or violence
- threatens, harasses or bullies anyone, or attacks people for who they are
- shares someone's private information or intimate images without their agreement
- infringes someone else's copyright or other rights
- is spam, a scam, or links to malware or phishing
And don't:
- try to get into other people's accounts or data, or test, probe or break Twean's security
- overload Twean, scrape it, or use bots or scripts to get round its limits
- pretend to be someone else, or to be Twean
Reporting a problem
If you see something on Twean that breaks these terms or the law (on a shared path, or in a memory passed to you), email info@twean.com with the path's address or the username, and what's wrong. We'll look at every report, act quickly on anything illegal or harmful, and tell you what we did where we can.
To stop someone passing you memories, remove them as a connection in People: only connections can pass you anything.
What we can do
If content or an account breaks these terms or the law, or puts other people or Twean at risk, we may:
- remove the content, or stop a path being shared
- limit what the account can do, or suspend or close it
- report it to the police or other authorities where the law requires it or someone is in danger
Where we can, we'll tell you what we did and why. If you think we got it wrong, email info@twean.com and someone will look at it again. The same address is for any other complaint about Twean.
AI features
- Path suggestions, reading photos, smart search and Ask Twean use AI. They're optional: Settings → AI turns them off.
- AI can get things wrong: text read from a photo can have mistakes, and an answer from Ask Twean can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything important against your memories, and don't rely on Twean for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
- The AI only suggests. It never puts a memory on a path by itself, unless you turn on Best path in Settings; then a memory you store without naming a path goes on the top suggestion, which may not be the one you'd have picked.
Keeping Twean running
- We work to keep Twean available and your memories safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that a recall notification will always arrive on time (it also depends on your phone, browser and connection).
- Don't make Twean the only place you keep something you can't afford to lose. Settings → Export downloads everything, whenever you like.
- Some features have fair-use limits, such as how many questions you can ask Twean a day. We may change them, and we may change, add or remove features as Twean grows.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits anything the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as our responsibility if our negligence causes death or personal injury, for fraud, or your legal rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, Twean is provided as it is. We're not responsible for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, for business losses, or for losing memories you could have kept by exporting them. If you use Twean for work, it's at your own risk.
Leaving, or Twean closing
- You can stop using Twean at any time. Settings → Delete account removes your account, memories, paths and photos.
- If we ever close Twean, or a feature you rely on, we'll tell you by email (to a confirmed address) or in the app at least 30 days before, so you can export your memories, unless something outside our control makes that impossible.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll tell you about important changes by email or in the app before they apply. If you don't agree with them, you can export your memories and delete your account; carrying on using Twean means you accept them.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
